Reddit Ads Cost: Calculate CPC, CPM and CPA From Your Own Campaigns
Published October 11, 2026 · Written by Aanart

Reddit Ads cost depends on the auction, your campaign objective, audience and bidding strategy. You can measure what your campaigns actually cost with three calculations: spend divided by clicks for CPC, spend divided by impressions multiplied by 1,000 for CPM, and spend divided by conversions for CPA.
These figures answer different questions. CPC measures the cost of a click. CPM measures the cost of reaching people through ad impressions. CPA measures the cost of the conversion you have chosen to count.
With SourcetoMCP, you can connect Reddit Ads to Claude or ChatGPT, retrieve campaign results and calculate these metrics from your account data. This guide explains the calculations, the checks to make before comparing campaigns and the prompts you can use.
How Reddit Ads pricing works
Reddit sells advertising through an auction. Your campaign objective and bidding settings affect how ads are delivered and billed. Reddit’s guidance describes billing approaches including cost per click, cost per thousand impressions and cost per video view. Check the options available for your selected objective in Ads Manager. Your reported CPC, CPM and CPA are also useful performance calculations. A calculated CPA tells you how much you spent per recorded conversion, regardless of the billing method used by the campaign.
A published average can provide context, but it cannot tell you what your next campaign will cost. Compare benchmarks only when you know their dates, currency, market, campaign objective and conversion definition.

Calculate CPC, CPM and CPA
Use spend, clicks, impressions and conversions from the same reporting period and campaign scope.
| Metric | Calculation | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| CPC | Spend ÷ clicks | Average advertising cost per click |
| CPM | Spend ÷ impressions × 1,000 | Average advertising cost per 1,000 impressions |
| CPA | Spend ÷ recorded conversions | Average advertising cost per selected conversion |
If the denominator is zero, report the metric as unavailable. A campaign with spend and no conversions has no calculable CPA. Reporting its CPA as $0 would incorrectly suggest free conversions.
The following hypothetical example uses USD and counts purchases as the conversion for both campaigns.
| Metric | Campaign A | Campaign B | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spend | $600 | $400 | $1,000 |
| Impressions | 120,000 | 80,000 | 200,000 |
| Clicks | 1,200 | 400 | 1,600 |
| Purchases | 24 | 20 | 44 |
| CPC | $0.50 | $1.00 | $0.63 |
| CPM | $5.00 | $5.00 | $5.00 |
| Cost per purchase | $25.00 | $20.00 | $22.73 |
Campaign A produces cheaper clicks. Campaign B produces cheaper purchases. If purchases are your goal, investigate what Campaign B is doing well before moving budget towards the campaign with the lower CPC.
Calculate combined metrics from the combined spend and counts. Averaging the two campaign CPCs would give $0.75, which differs from the actual combined CPC of $1,000 ÷ 1,600, or approximately $0.63.
Check what counts as a conversion
CPA is only useful when you know its denominator.
A purchase, lead submission and account signup represent different outcomes. Reddit’s generic key-conversion count follows the conversion event selected for the campaign. Confirm that event before comparing campaigns or reporting an account-wide CPA.
For campaigns with different goals, use separate labels such as cost per purchase and cost per signup. Where the report provides the required event-specific counts, calculate each metric using the matching event.
Also record the attribution settings used in Ads Manager. A report that credits conversions after ad views can produce different results from a report limited to conversions after clicks.
For lead campaigns, compare recorded submissions with qualified leads in your CRM. A low cost per submission does not establish that the leads are suitable customers.
Review your Reddit Ads costs with AI
Connect your account using the guide for Reddit Ads with Claude or Reddit Ads with ChatGPT.
Start with two comparable periods. Twenty-eight complete days compared with the previous twenty-eight gives both periods the same mix of weekdays. Allow for conversion delays, promotions and changes in spend.
Use this prompt:
Review Reddit Ads account [account name] for [dates], compared with [comparison dates]. Retrieve the account currency and campaign performance. Show spend, impressions, clicks and recorded conversions for each campaign. Calculate CPC, CPM and CPA from the underlying totals. Identify the conversion definition wherever it is available and flag anything I need to confirm in Ads Manager. Show missing values and incomplete reports. Analyse only and make no account changes.
SourcetoMCP can retrieve campaign, ad group, ad and audience performance. The reporting operations can return incomplete results when the account exceeds the available report page. Keep those warnings in the analysis rather than presenting a partial dataset as the full account.
Record reporting dates and currency explicitly. If figures differ from Ads Manager, check the time boundaries, attribution settings and whether recent conversions are still arriving.
Find the source of a cost increase
Compare each cost metric with the counts behind it.
If spend per 1,000 impressions rises, inspect audience, placement and campaign changes. If CPM remains similar while CPC rises, check whether fewer impressions are turning into clicks.
If CPC remains similar while CPA rises, investigate the journey after the click. Check the offer, landing page, conversion tracking and the quality of the traffic reaching the page.
Request audience reports separately:
Compare costs across the available community, country and placement breakdowns for [dates]. Retrieve each breakdown separately. Show spend, clicks, impressions and the relevant conversion count. Flag rows with little data, missing conversions or different conversion definitions. Suggest the next investigation for each finding.
Treat these reports as different views of the same advertising activity. Adding community spend to placement spend would count the same activity more than once.
Set a test budget using your target CPA
Build your budget around an outcome you can afford.
For a hypothetical test with a target cost per purchase of $25 and a planning goal of 20 purchases, the implied advertising budget is:
$25 × 20 = $500
That calculation is a planning assumption. Actual purchases depend on campaign performance, and 20 purchases do not automatically provide enough evidence to establish a reliable result.
Before starting, record the budget, conversion definition, review date and conditions that would trigger a change. For example, a tracking failure requires investigation even if the campaign has not reached its planned spend.
Finish the review with a specific test:
Based on the results, propose three tests. For each, show the supporting figures, the change to test, the metric to monitor and the information still missing. Keep campaign changes separate from measurement fixes. Do not apply any changes.
Use the SourcetoMCP Reddit Ads connection to repeat the review with the same calculations and conversion definitions.
