Shopify MCP Server for Claude and ChatGPT
Find orders, edit them, create discounts, adjust stock, process returns and run sales reports from Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP-compatible agent.
SourcetoMCP is a hosted Shopify MCP server, so there is nothing to install or run on your computer. It shares one connection with your Google Ads, TikTok Ads, Google Analytics and Search Console accounts, so a single question can compare what you spent on ads with what the store sold.

Add a $5 gift wrap line to order #1042 and email the customer.

Why connect Shopify to your agent
The Shopify admin handles one task at a time. An agent can read an order, check the stock behind it, edit it and email the customer in a single request, and it can do the same across a list of orders.
- Orders from search to edit. Find the orders you mean, then change them. Add a line, change a quantity, discount an item, add shipping or fulfil with tracking.
- Returns, refunds and gift cards. The actions Shopify's own connectors list as unsupported are separate operations here, each with its own approval step.
- Ad spend next to sales. Google Ads, TikTok Ads, Google Analytics and Search Console sit on the same connection, so your agent can answer how much each ad dollar returned in store sales.
- You choose how much it can do. The access scopes on your Shopify app set the limit. Read scopes only gives you a read-only agent.
How it works
Create an app for your store. In your Shopify Dev Dashboard, create an app, install it on your store and choose its access scopes. Copy its client ID and secret. A store with an older custom app can use that app's access token instead.
Paste the credentials into SourcetoMCP. Enter your yourstore.myshopify.com address with the client ID and secret. They are stored encrypted, and deleting the app in Shopify revokes access.
Ask in plain language. Your agent picks the right operation. Reads run straight away, and writes and deletes go through their own tool so your AI client can ask you first.
Paid orders to fulfil
status, total and item count per order
| order | status | total | items |
|---|---|---|---|
| #1046 | Unfulfilled | $129.90 | 3 |
| #1045 | Unfulfilled | $54.00 | 1 |
| #1042 | Partially fulfilled | $79.95 | 2 |

Orders, from search to edit
Find orders by status, date or search text. Then add or remove lines, change quantities, discount a line, add shipping, cancel, close, mark paid or fulfil with a tracking number. An edit that fails part way leaves the order untouched.
Returns and refunds
Create, approve, decline and process returns, and create refunds with the line items and restock choice you name. Customers are only emailed when you say so.
Every kind of discount
Percentage off, fixed amount, buy X get Y and free shipping, as codes or automatic discounts. Create them, change them, turn them on and off, and add or remove codes in bulk.
Stock across locations
Stock levels per location, variants running low, and corrections with a reason. Move stock between locations and run transfers and shipments between warehouses.
Products, collections and content
Create and update products with options, variants and media, build manual or smart collections, and edit pages, blog posts, menus and URL redirects. New products are created as drafts.
Customers and gift cards
Search customers and segments, merge duplicates, record marketing consent, adjust store credit, and create, top up or deactivate gift cards.
Sales reports in ShopifyQL
Ask for sales by day, product, channel or location and get the numbers back from Shopify's own reporting language, so every figure comes straight from your store.
Read-only when you want it
The access scopes you give your Shopify app decide what the agent can touch. Grant read scopes only and every write is refused with Shopify's own message naming the missing scope.
How this compares with Shopify's own connectors
Shopify offers its own connectors for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok. They cover products, collections, inventory, percentage-off discount codes and sales questions, and the help pages are clear about what they leave out. The Shopify column below comes from the Claude page, and the ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok pages list the same limits on orders, customers, discount codes, refunds, cancellations and returns.
| Shopify's own connectors | SourcetoMCP | |

Shopify MCP FAQ
Common questions from store owners connecting Shopify to an agent.
It can read and change orders, products, inventory, customers, discounts, gift cards, returns, fulfilment, collections, pages and blog posts, metafields and shipping settings, and run ShopifyQL sales reports. That is 414 operations: 143 reads, 217 writes and 54 deletes. Reads run through one tool, and writes and deletes each run through their own, so your AI client can ask you before anything changes.
Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini, Grok, or any MCP-compatible client. Connect once from your dashboard's "Connect an agent" page and every tool you have paired can use your store.
Shopify offers its own connectors for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok. Its help pages say they read orders and customers, create percentage-off discount codes only, and cannot refund, cancel or capture orders or process returns. The Claude page also lists gift cards as unsupported. Those actions are separate operations here, and SourcetoMCP shares one connection with your ad and analytics accounts. The comparison above lists the details and links to Shopify's pages.
Shopify publishes several. The Dev MCP server and AI Toolkit give coding assistants Shopify's documentation and API schemas. Its storefront endpoints let shopping agents search a store's products and build a cart. Shopify also offers connectors for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok that manage a store. SourcetoMCP is a separate, hosted server for running your own store from the AI tool you already use.
Shopify's developer tools and its connector for Claude carry no extra Shopify fee. SourcetoMCP is on paid plans, and each Shopify store counts as one connection. See Pricing for how many connections each plan includes.
Create an app in your Shopify Dev Dashboard, install it on your store and give it the access scopes you want. Paste its client ID and secret into SourcetoMCP with your yourstore.myshopify.com address. The app and the store need to belong to the same Shopify organisation. If your store already has an older custom app, paste that app's Admin API access token instead, since Shopify stopped letting merchants create new custom apps of that kind on 1 January 2026. Nothing is installed on your computer.
Yes. Your Shopify app's access scopes decide what the agent can do. Give it read scopes only and any write fails with Shopify's own message naming the scope it lacks. Ask your agent for your app's access scopes at any time to see exactly what it has been granted.
A single order, a customer and the members of a segment include names and contact details, which Shopify treats as protected customer data. The order list leaves customer details out unless you ask for them, and the draft order and abandoned checkout lists show the customer by id only.
Shopify applies its own rate limits to every app. SourcetoMCP adds a daily limit for each operation: 200 calls for a read and 20 for a write or delete. Each operation has its own budget, so editing 20 orders does not use up the budget for creating discounts.
Sidekick is Shopify's assistant inside the Shopify admin. SourcetoMCP lets the AI you already use, such as Claude or ChatGPT, work on your store from outside the admin, and pull in data from your ad and analytics accounts in the same request.
