Demand Gen Google Ads: Review Creative, Reach and Conversions With AI

Published October 24, 2026 · Written by Aanart

Demand Gen is a Google Ads campaign type for visual advertising across surfaces such as YouTube, Discover, Gmail and the Google Display Network, with channel availability depending on current campaign settings and rollout. Review the creative, audience, destination and conversion definition together before increasing spend.

SourcetoMCP’s Google Ads connector can help your assistant inspect campaign, ad and supported video results. This guide turns those reports into a review of what earns useful outcomes, with separate checks for channel settings and conversion attribution in Google Ads.

Identify the campaign and the outcome it pursues

Read the campaign ID, type, status, serving status, budget and bidding strategy. Use the saved type to identify Demand Gen campaigns rather than relying on a naming convention. A campaign with “video” in its name can belong to a different campaign type or reflect an earlier setup.

Confirm the selected conversion goal and the business action behind it. If a newsletter signup and a sale both contribute to the same conversion total, explain how the review treats them. A lower blended CPA can hide a shift towards the easier action.

Google’s Demand Gen overview describes the campaign type and its current surfaces. Channel controls continue to develop, so inspect your account’s actual options. This article does not assume every placement or setting is available through the connector.

Use the Performance Max guide for that separate campaign type. Demand Gen and Performance Max need their own campaign IDs, objectives and report scopes when you compare them.

Separate channel settings from the reports you can retrieve

Start with complete-period campaign results, then split supported reports by ad group, ad or date. Request impressions, clicks, cost, conversions and conversion value where supported. Keep the currency and timezone returned with the report.

For video creative, the video report can identify a YouTube video, its title and supported performance metrics. Some view measures apply only to particular video formats. A missing value is not proof that a video received no attention, so retain the report’s limitations.

SourcetoMCP’s campaign and ad reports are not a promise of a complete Demand Gen channel report. Ask the assistant to discover compatible fields if you need more detail. Where a channel split is unavailable, use Google Ads and attach an export to the review.

Google’s channel-controls documentation explains how to inspect and choose eligible channels in the interface. Compare the channel configuration with where spend actually occurred before assuming a creative change caused a performance shift.

Compare creative with business results

The following hypothetical AUD example compares two creatives over the same complete 28-day period. “Qualified leads” are separately reconciled business outcomes supplied by the advertiser. The table does not imply the connector automatically retrieves qualification data from a CRM.

CreativeSpendClicks / CTRRecorded leadsQualified leads
Product demonstrationAUD 1,500300 / 1%6030
Broad giveawayAUD 1,500600 / 2%306

Both rows have 30,000 impressions. The demonstration produces a recorded-lead CPA of AUD 25 and a qualified-lead cost of AUD 50. The giveaway produces AUD 50 per recorded lead and AUD 250 per qualified lead. Its higher CTR does not make it the better lead-generation creative.

Investigate whether the giveaway attracts people who want the prize more than the product. Review the offer, form and qualification definitions. Two observed rows do not isolate the creative’s causal effect when audiences or placements differ.

Create the next test around a specific difference, such as the opening product demonstration or the offer. Keep the outcome definition and review period written down before launch.

Check how conversions were attributed

Demand Gen results can involve clicks, engaged views and view-through measurement. Check the current campaign’s conversion-optimisation settings and reporting breakdown before comparing CPA with a click-focused Search campaign.

Google’s view-through optimisation guidance describes the setting and the Ad event type reporting split. That is a distinct check from reading the overall conversions or view-through conversions column. Do not add overlapping conversion measures together.

Keep a record of the goal, attribution window, ad event type and timing basis used in each comparison. If one period includes a different conversion setting, explain that definition change before presenting a percentage improvement.

An attributed conversion describes the platform’s measurement rules. It does not by itself establish an additional sale caused by advertising. For a claim about extra sales, plan an appropriate incrementality test and keep that evidence separate from this account review.

Give AI a bounded Demand Gen review

Review Demand Gen campaigns [IDs] in [account] over [complete period]. Make no changes. Read campaign configuration and goals, then campaign, ad-group, ad and supported video performance. Preserve currency, timezone and report warnings. Rank creative for the stated outcome [definition], using qualified outcomes only if I supply them. Mark channel settings, ad-event-type attribution and unsupported breakdowns for a Google Ads interface check. Recommend one test with a baseline, exact proposed change and review criteria.

Ask the assistant to label the evidence supporting each recommendation. A campaign total supports a campaign-level observation. It cannot establish which channel or audience produced that total when those breakdowns were not retrieved.

Use the ad-fatigue guide to investigate whether a creative’s performance is weakening across comparable periods. Keep reach and frequency checks tied to supported campaign types and metrics.

Review the exact change before launch

The connector includes a Demand Gen multi-asset ad creation path using existing image assets, headlines, descriptions and a business name. Its current implementation does not cover every Demand Gen format or every interface setting, and that write path has not been established as a live-tested demonstration by this guide.

Do not assume it uploads any video format or changes the creative content of an existing ad. Inspect the discovered operation inputs, keep new work paused where supported and verify the returned state. Use Google Ads for unsupported formats, destinations or channel controls.

Before approving spend, check the actual landing page, conversion test, audience eligibility and creative approvals in the account. Save the campaign and ad IDs, approved budget and change time. Revisit the same outcome definition after the comparison period has matured.
