Connect Ahrefs to AI Agents

Connect Ahrefs and ask about backlinks, referring domains, organic keywords, top pages and keyword research, in plain English. Ahrefs works on any domain, including ones you have never verified, so it's the one connector here that also reads a competitor.

What you'll need

An Ahrefs plan with API access, and a workspace-level API key.
Some spare API units in that workspace's plan, see below.

Ahrefs connects with that API key, not OAuth. Every operation is read-only, nothing about your site or Ahrefs account can be changed through this connection.

Connect it

Generate an API key

In your Ahrefs account, create a workspace-level API key.

Open Connectors

In your SourcetoMCP dashboard, go to Connectors and choose Add Connection, then Ahrefs.

Paste your key

SourcetoMCP verifies it against your Ahrefs workspace.

Confirm

The connection shows up as Connected in your Connectors table.

Every read here spends Ahrefs API units from your workspace's own metered allowance, a minimum of 50 units per call, more for operations returning several rows. Each answer reports what it actually cost. Checking your remaining balance is free.

Troubleshooting

Symptom	Likely fix
Key rejected	Ahrefs API keys expire a year after creation, and stop working if the person who created them leaves the workspace. Generate a new one and reconnect.
No data returned	Check your remaining API units, a free call. A workspace out of units can't run any metered operation until it resets.
Costing more units than expected	Broad questions returning many rows cost more, each row on operations like organic keywords or backlinks is metered individually.
