Connect Google Sheets to AI Agents
Connect Google Sheets and ask an agent to read or update rows, format cells, build charts, comment, share, or export a spreadsheet, in plain English.
What you'll need
- A Google Sheets file you already have access to, or ask your agent to create a new one.
- SourcetoMCP can't browse your whole Drive, it only ever sees spreadsheets you explicitly pick when you connect, or ones your agent creates from scratch.
Google Sheets connects through Google's own OAuth sign-in.
Connect it
Open Connectors
In your SourcetoMCP dashboard, go to Connectors and choose Add Connection, then Google Sheets.
Sign in with Google
Grant SourcetoMCP access on Google's own consent screen.
Choose your spreadsheets
Pick one or more files through Google's own file picker.
Confirm
The connection shows up as Connected in your Connectors table.
Writes are real: updating cells, formatting, sorting, merging, charts, dropdowns and protected ranges. By default a written value starting with =, +, - or @ runs as a live formula rather than being stored as text, ask for plain text specifically if that's not what you want. Sharing a spreadsheet with someone, or making it accessible to anyone with the link, is also real and takes effect immediately.
Try it
- "Clean up this range, trim whitespace and remove duplicate rows."
- "Flag any row over budget in red and sort by amount."
- "Build a chart from this quarter's totals."
- "Freeze the header row and leave a note explaining this formula."
- "Share this tracker with [email protected], then export it as a PDF."
Join it with other sources
"Read this range and build a table with it in our connected Google Doc."
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely fix |
|---|---|
| A spreadsheet you connected isn't reachable anymore | Access is per-file, not per-account. Reopen the connector's setup and pick the file again through the picker. |
| A written value shows a formula instead of the result | Expected if the value started with =, + or -. Ask for it as plain text if you didn't mean it as a formula. |
| Can't connect a second spreadsheet | Reopen the connector's setup, the picker lets you add more files to the same connection. |
